Atrio: Revista de historia del arte nº 15-16 (2010), p. 37-46 El presente artículo aborda la participación de los ingenieros militares del ejército español en la construcción de teatros en Cuba durante el periodo colo- nial. A través de fuentes documentales primarias se analizan ejemplos de diferentes teatros coloniales cubanos a todo lo largo de la isla. Los ingenieros tuvieron un papel protagónico en la concepción de estas obras y fueron los principales transportadores de las tendencias arquitectónicas europeas de este género de edificios. Igualmente, se enfatiza la relación entre las características arquitectónicas del edificio-teatro y la formación de los ingenieros militares.Varios de los ejemplos estudiados todavía sobreviven en diferentes ciudades de Cuba. The present article approaches the participation of the military engineers of the Spanish army in the construction of theaters in Cuba during the colonial period.Through primary documental sources examples of different Cuban colonial theaters are analyzed to all the long of the island.The engineers had a protagonistic role in the conception of these works and they were the main transporters of the European architectural tendencies of this gender of buildings. Equally, the relation- ship between the architectural characteristics of the theater and the formation of the military engineers is emphasized. Several of the examples studied still survive in different cities of Cuba. Versión del editor
