A Alta Sensibilidade de Processamento Sensorial e a Agressão

Abstract

Recently there has been development a numerous studies that aim to deepen the knowledge about High Sensory-Processing Sensitivity (HSPS) trait. The present investigation is transversal, and has a quantitative, descriptive and correlational approach, it is proposed to investigate the forms of aggression present in individuals with HSPS, and whether gender and age influence the passage to the act. The data was collected through an online protocol that included the High Sensitive Person Scale (HSPS), version in process of validation for the Portuguese population, and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (QA). The sample was constituted by 1061 subjects, which reduced to 947 individuals after exclusion criteria were applied, of which 65.8% were females, aged 18 to 80 years (M = 29.08, SD = 12.034). The results indicate that 67.9% of the participants scored above the theoretical median in the HSPS, and 8.3% showed scores above the theoretical median in the QA. The female gender has higher results in HSPS and in anger (QA). The male gender presents higher results in the physical aggression (QA). Participants aged 23 or under present prominent results in QA (total score), physical aggression (QA) and hostility (QA). The results show that higher levels of SPS are associated with higher levels of aggression, specifically in females and in participants aged 24-59 years, with higher levels of SPS being associated with higher levels of hostility (QA), and that higher levels of HSPS are associated with higher levels of aggression (total QA score) and hostility (QA). The final considerations demonstrated the main contributions of the present investigation, as well as some of its limitations, indicating suggestions for future studies.
