Abstract

Designa-se por hilemorfismo o resultado de uma síntese compósita entre matéria (- hylê) e forma (- morphê). Apesar de esse termo não comparecer grafado ad literam nos tratados de Aristóteles – encontrando-se a sua origem lexical reportada a uma vaga, mas muito incerta, construção terminológica oitocentista – a ideia que se lhe associa reveste-se, todavia, de uma crucial importância para a sua filosofia. A base conceptual remete para a teoria da substância (ousia; hypokeimenon), à qual inerem três possibilidades constitutivas: matéria (“hyle”), forma (“eidos” ou “morphe”) ou composto (“synolon”). O hilemorfismo foi historicamente absorvido, desde logo em ambiência neoplatónica pela pena de Ibn Gabirol (Avicebron), e já depois teologicamente reutilizado em contexto medieval cristão (a partir e com base num notório influxo escotista e tomista), sem que, surpreendentemente, nada o tivesse impedido de reemergir em teorizações filosóficas na ciência contemporânea, v. g. no contexto heisenberguiano da mecânica quântica.
