A Memória de Trabalho tem como principal função a manutenção das capacidades cognitivas (Mascarello, 2016). é constituída por quatro componentes, sendo que neste estudo avaliar-se-á o loop fonológico, responsável pela manutenção e controlo de elementos verbais na memória de trabalho (Rodrigues, 2001). Em relação à sintomatologia depressiva, existem diversos tipos, nomeadamente os psíquicos, os fisiológicos e os comportamentais. A amostra deste estudo é composta por 109 participantes de nacionalidade portuguesa. Com o intuito de avaliar a presença de sintomatologia depressiva utilizou-se o Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) e a memória de trabalho foi avaliada através da tarefa Verbal Recognition Task. Os resultados demonstram que há diferenças entre o score da tarefa Verbal Recognition Task obtidos pelos participantes que pontuaram abaixo do ponto de corte e participantes que pontuaram acima do ponto de corte sendo que essa diferença é estatisticamente significativa. Relativamente à sintomatologia depressiva quando se comparam homens e mulheres conclui-se que não há diferenças estatisticamente significativa.

Working Memory's main function is the maintenance of cognitive abilities (Mascarello, 2016). has four componentes, but only the phonological loop – which is responsible for the maintenance and control of verbal elements in working memory (Rodrigues, 2001) – will be evaluated in this study. In relation to depressive symptoms, there are several types, namely psychic, physiological and behavioral. The sample is composed by 109 portuguese participants. In order to assess the presence of depressive symptoms, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) was used and working memory was assessed using the Verbal Recognition Task. The results demonstrate that when purchasing the Verbal Recognition Task task score diferences between participants who scored below the cutoff point and participants who scored above the cutoff point statistically significant. In what concerns depressive symptoms the differences between men and women are not statistically significant.
