Marcial: a poesia como janela indiscreta

Abstract

This is the study of some aspects that Martial’s epigrams reveal about daily life in Rome in the 1st century AD. It pays special attention to the City’s urban and human landscapes, to the celebration of imperial victories and to the Games, as well as to characters that populated the city streets, like the cenipeta Selius.
