ABSTRACT: Self-criticism and self-compassion have aroused interest for being factors of vulnerability and protection, respectively, for psychosocial difficulties. However, we know so little about their influence in Higher Education. Objective: to relate self-criticism and self-autocompassion with academic variables of Higher Education. Methodology: 662 students from the University of Azores participated in this study. Instruments: Sociodemographic and academic questionnaire, Forms of Self-criticizing and Self-reassurance Scale (FSCRS), Academic Experience Questionnaire (QVA-r). Results and conclusions: There was a significant relation between self-criticism and selfcompassion with disapprovals, so self-criticism can influence the individual's academic career. Keywords: Higher education, psychosocial processes, selfcriticism, self-compassion.
