O timbre e a identidade dos instrumentos musicais

Abstract

Timbre é uma característica multidimensional do som e permite identificar fontes sonoras. Investigação efetuada sobre timbre musical tem avaliado os efeitos de parâmetros acústicos na compreensão do timbre dos instrumentos. Com este artigo, pretende-se observar a função desempenhada pelo timbre na identidade dos instrumentos musicais. Como estudo qualitativo, adotou-se a metodologia associada à revisão narrativa de literatura, concernente a estudos sobre a identificação do timbre de fontes sonoras musicais. Os resultados indicam que o timbre de um som se correlaciona com as envolventes espectral e temporal. Da interação do espectro com os transientes de ataque e extinção, entre outros fatores, resulta o timbre dos instrumentos musicais.
