O processamento sensorial e o sono: que relação?

Abstract

O presente estudo, tem como objetivo compreender a relação entre o processamento sensorial e o sono. A amostra foi constituída por 86 crianças, com idades compreendidas entre os 24-36 meses de idade, com um desenvolvimento típico. Para analisar o processamento sensorial foi utilizado o Perfil Sensorial da criança e do bebé e para os padrões de sono, o Questionário de Hábitos de Sono das Crianças. Os resultados demonstram correlações entre processamento sensorial e as dimensões do sono, nomeadamente, a sensibilidade sensorial em relação à ansiedade do sono (r= -.265; p=.015) e as parassónias (r= -.258; p=.018); o processamento táctil relaciona-se com a duração do sono (r=-.281; p=.009) e a sonolência diurna (r=-.265; p=.014); o processamento auditivo e sensorial oral com as parassónias (r=-.286; p=.008), (r=-.290; p=.007); o processamento vestibular com a resistência em ir para a cama (r=-.215; p=.049), ansiedade do sono (r=-.330; p=.002) e parassónias (r=-.266; p=.015). Conclui-se que alterações no processamento sensorial, tem influência nos hábitos e padrões de sono das crianças. Deste modo, o estudo, veio contribuir para uma abordagem mais eficiente, por parte dos terapeutas ocupacionais, dado que podem ajudar os pais, a identificar os padrões de processamento sensorial das crianças que podem estar a condicionar o sono, através da intervenção em integração sensorial.
