Avaliação cognitiva com recurso à realidade virtual

Abstract

Executive functions (EF) play a central role in cognitive, social, and academic development, and their early assessment is essential to prevent future difficulties. Virtual reality has emerged as an innovative tool, offering immersive, ecological, and engaging environments for cognitive evaluation. This study aimed to analyze the reliability, validity, and clinical applicability of Cogniclear VR in the assessment of EF in children aged 8 to 14 years. The sample included 47 participants, of whom 12 were also assessed with the Coimbra Neuropsychological Assessment Battery. Results indicated adequate internal consistency (α = .824) and significant positive correlations between specific Cogniclear VR domains (memory, attention, and language) and equivalent BANC tasks, suggesting partial predictive validity. Consistent differences were also observed between children with and without developmental disorders, reinforcing the discriminant validity of the instrument. In conclusion, Cogniclear VR shows potential as a tool for EF assessment in pediatric contexts, overcoming limitations of traditional methodologies, such as lengthy administration time, low motivation, and reduced ecological validity. Despite the limitations of a pilot design and small sample size, these findings reinforce the relevance of integrating VR into Occupational Therapy clinical practice
