Authors: Relvas, Susana Rocha;

António Sardinha à lareira de Castela

Abstract

Exile, as a theme of Comparative Literature, has witnessed an upsurge among the research community, who in recent decades have been devoted to its study in an interdisciplinary way, opening up perspectives for new methodological approaches. In this study, from a comparative viewpoint, our aim is to account for António Sardinha’s exile in Spain and its repercussions at a doctrinal, cultural and literary level. We are thus enabled to understand, through his poetry, the factual and emotional context to which absence and distance give rise, but also what the expatriate condition reveals in the encounter with the other, reflecting on the historical mission of the two Iberian countries, which results in the Hispanic project of a Peninsular alliance with multiple connections with Latin America.
