Promoção da parentalidade positiva

Abstract

The path towards the acquisition of expertise in Pediatrics and Child Health Nursing, recognized as the deepening and mobilization of professional experience and theoretical knowledge in different contexts of practice, is reflected in this report. The theme Promotion of Positive Parenting, as a recent field and duly included in the functions of the Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and Child Health, coupled with the Model of Partnership Care of Anne Casey (1988), guided the decision-making of the specific objectives and activities set in the Association Acreditar, developed as a community resource to support children with cancer and their family; in the Family Health Unit Gama, in which it was possible to implement a Course for Parents, as a parental empowerment strategy, in child care; the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, from the Dona Estefania Hospital, which, as a complex and technical context, embraced a Project for the Stimulation of the Five Senses of Newborn through early interaction between parents/child and, lastly, the Pediatric Emergency Unit of the Hospital of Torres Vedras, in which, involved in my professional environment, I tried to establish an efficient and functional multidisciplinary articulation, in the design and operation of the Project “Intervene to Prevent" - Addressing Risk Situations in Child/Youth and Promoting Positive Parenting as a Strategy for Prevention of Child Abuse. Transversely to all these health units, there was a pre-defined aim to Develop the technical, scientific and relational skills in the area of specialization in Nursing Pediatrics and Child Health, under the Promotion of Positive Parenting. From the changes introduced in practice for the sustainability of the projects presented, was born the critical awareness that the role of the Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and Child Health focuses on support and positive reinforcement to parental actions in the Child’s Best Interest. Thus, the project believes in the possibilities of parents and aims to stimulate their participation in the child care, train creatively, negotiate with respect for their wishes and positively reinforce all efforts and gains made in the child's harmonious development and in the healthy parental role performance. Of personal and professional changes achieved by the practice, and being questioned by this critical conscience, I can say that the theoretical foundation necessary for a credible and visible Specialized Nursing practice has become the main contribution. The wealth of experiences offered along this journey, aroused an enthusiasm by the constant challenging and deepening of knowledge and attitudes that give rise to Excellence in the Nursing Practice of Child Health and Pediatrics
