Voluntariado corporativo : o caso da Sage Portugal-Software, S.A.

Abstract

More and more companies are investing in corporate social responsibility, thus there is a need to assess the motivations of companies when implementing this strategy and the motivations of employees to participate, or not, in corporate volunteering activities. This study focuses on the analysis of these points, in the particular case of Sage Software - Portugal SA, exploring the Sage Foundation – foundation integrated into the multinational that promotes social responsibility among employees. The results were obtained through an analysis of interviews and surveys carried out with the company's employees. The results indicate that the reasons that lead the company to promote volunteering activities are in line with those observed in the literature; the benefits and losses that the company has when implementing this strategy are also in line with those observed in the literature. As for the motivations of the employees who participate, only some of them are in line with those referred in the literature. Other reasons were also identified, such as identification with the cause and the obligation to achieve the annual goals. This work contributes to existing knowledge by confirming previous evidence and identifying new motivations. In the business scope, this study proposes new ways to improve employee participation in volunteering activities promoted by Sage Foundation.
