Abstract

This communication is an exploratory study that is integrated in a PhD research in Educational Sciences and aims to know the perception of the students of the 3rd cycle of basic education, regarding the current teaching practices, teaching and learning strategies, pedagogical relationships and others activities that cross the traditional frontier of the classroom. The school where this research took place adhered to the project of autonomy and curricular flexibility of the basic education, in experimental regime, in the school year 2017/2018, made possible by Legal Order nº 5908/2017”. Thus, we would like to understand if there are differences in the answers of the 7th grade students, who were part of the pioneer group that implemented the autonomy and curricular flexibility project and its 8th and 9th grade classmates, who did not. The study was carried out in a school in an urban environment, using a questionnaire survey applied to a total of 120 students. The main conclusions are that, 7th graders students perceive themselves to be more autonomous in class, value more activities outside the classroom, refer that their teachers use more active methods and consider memorization less relevant and the reproduction of contents as a learning strategy than their 8th and 9th graders colleagues.
