Abstract

Corporate social responsibility has gained, in the last few years, great importance in the business environment. Specifically, we see a growing trend in companies’ investment in corporate volunteering programs addressing societies’ social and environmental problems (Boccalandro, 2009). These programs, besides providing numerous benefits to society, have also a positive impact on the company, both externally and internally (Kotler & Lee, 2005). The present master's thesis aims to explore and analyze these concepts in order to study the impact of a corporate volunteer program on increasing the engagement of a company's employees. Indeed, since employees are the main stakeholders that directly contribute to a company's success, understanding the influence of internal initiatives, such as a corporate volunteer program, on their behavior plays a crucial role in the study of the importance and benefits in companies engaging in this practice of corporate social responsibility (Bauman, 2012). As such, the such, the research has an extensive literature review, which will serve as a theoretical basis for the method of first-person action research embraced. Through this analysis, it was possible to conclude that a well implemented corporate volunteering program can, as a matter of fact, positively influence employee engagement. Additionally, at the end of this document, it is presented a suggestion for the implementation of a corporate volunteering program. This proposal is mainly based on the knowledge attained throughout of the curricular internship, in articulation with the contribute given by the theoretical contribution presented.
