Estilo parental, parentalidade consciente e vinculação na relação pais e filhos

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Parenting styles influence the quality of attachment. There is still little knowledge about this association in the period of transition to adolescence, as well as the influence of other parental characteristics, namely conscious parenting. This study aims to assess whether parenting style and conscious parenting influence the quality of attachment in the transition to adolescence, from the perspective of parents and children. The sample consisted of 80 dyads of mothers/fathers and their children, aged between 8 and 12, Portuguese and Brazilian, from public and public schools. Data was collected on paper and online. The results show that from the parents' perspective, the more authoritarian or permissive they perceive their parenting style to be and the greater their acceptance without judgement, the higher their perception of ambivalent attachment. As for the children, the more they perceive non-judgemental acceptance from their parents, the higher their perception of avoidant attachment. These results reveal how parents and children have different perceptions of aspects that contribute to different attachment styles. Conclusion: Authoritarian and permissive parenting styles and conscious parenting, especially parents' non-judgemental acceptance, have a significant impact on children's insecure attachment (ambivalent and avoidant).
