Abstract

This study aims to explore empirically the impact of Leadership Styles in Work Engagement. Therefore, three different hypotheses were elaborated: (1) Transformational Leadership has a positive impact in the collaborators’ Work Engagement; (2) Generations has a moderating effect on the relationship between Leadership Styles and Work Engagement. This study had the participation of 304 subjects, spread among different organizations in Portugal. However, the results indicate a significant and positive impact of Transactional Leadership on Work Engagement. Also, no moderating effect of Generations was found in the relationship between these two variables. These results indicate that when leaders use a transactional style, employees have higher levels of well-being at work. Even though generations are an increasingly important factor, in this study in particular, no significant effect was found.
