Aprendizagem da leitura na trissomia 21: Estudo de Caso

Abstract

A Síndrome de Down, vulgarmente conhecida como Trissomia 21, é uma perturbação mental congénita causada pela presença de um cromossoma 21 extra. Do ponto de vista físico, os indivíduos portadores de Trissomia 21 apresentam características específicas, tais como, face arredondada, boca entreaberta e membros pequenos. Ao nível do desenvolvimento social e emocional, são indivíduos mais ansiosos e com uma capacidade de concentração mais curta, o que faz com que a sua capacidade de aprendizagem seja mais lenta. No entanto, um indivíduo com Trissomia 21 pode adquirir as competências escolares básicas – ler e escrever. A frequência de um estabelecimento de ensino, público ou privado, é tão relevante como a participação em programas de intervenção precoce. Além disso, a experiência escolar ajuda o indivíduo portador de Trissiomia 21 a construir a sua própria identidade e a fortalecer a sua auto-estima e auto-confiança. Por outro lado, o contacto com a comunidade educativa permitir-lhe-á estimular as suas relações sociais. Neste sentido, pretende-se analisar um caso específico, de um indivíduo do sexo feminino, com a idade de 19 anos, que re(iniciou) recentemente o seu processo de aprendizagem da leitura, através de apoio psicopedagógico personalizado. Esta intervenção educativa baseou-se numa abordagem holística, que recorreu a métodos distintos, mas complementares, da aprendizagem da leitura: método tradicional, método das 28 palavras, método fonomímico.
