Investigation has, in recente years, referred to the importance of parental and family involvement, as the basis of sustainability for the sports development of the child. The goal of our study was to understand children's view on parental involvement in their soccer practice, and understand the differences between the variables: children’s sports group, qualifications and sports practice of the parents. The sample includes 203 children, soccer players, divided into 8 teams from the district of Castelo Branco, between the groups of infants and started. The tool used for data collection was a questionnaire adapted from the “Parental Involvement Sport Questionnaire ”Lee and Mclean (1997). The main conclusions showed that in children’s opinion, regardless of the group they belong to and regardless of their parent’s qualifications and sports practice, there’s a large involvement of their parents on their soccer activities Concerning the variables, conclusions showed that there are significant differences regarding the influence and involvement of parents, encouraging the children to this practice, for parents of children who belong to the groups of infants and started. There are also significant differences in encouragement and concern from parents of children who play sports, depending on their (high or low) qualifications. There are also significant differences on the influence and involvement of parents in their children’s practice, regarding parents who practice and / or practiced any sport and parents who do not practice and / or did not practice any sport.

A investigação tem nos últimos anos referido a importância do envolvimento dos pais e da família próxima, no desenvolvimento desportivo da criança. O objetivo deste nosso estudo foi conhecer a opinião das crianças sobre o envolvimento parental na sua prática de futebol e compreender as diferenças entre as variáveis, escalão desportivo das crianças, habilitações literárias e a prática desportiva dos pais. A amostra é constituída por 203 crianças praticantes de futebol, divididas por clubes do distrito de Castelo Branco, entre os escalões de infantis e iniciados. O instrumento utilizado na recolha de dados foi um questionário adaptado do “Parental Involvement Sport Questionnaire” de Lee e Mclean (1997) As principais conclusões demonstraram que na opinião das crianças, independentemente do escalão desportivo a que pertencem e independentemente das habilitações literárias e da prática desportiva dos pais, há um grande envolvimento dos mesmos na prática desportiva dos filhos. Relativamente à variável escalão desportivo, as conclusões do estudo demonstraram que há diferenças na influência e intervenção e no incentivo e preocupação dos pais na prática desportiva dos filhos, entre os infantis e iniciados. Há também diferenças no incentivo e preocupação dos pais na prática desportiva dos filhos e no espirito desportivo, entre os pais que têm habilitações literárias altas e baixas. Há ainda diferenças na influência e intervenção dos pais na prática desportiva dos filhos e no incentivo e preocupação com essa prática, entre os pais com e sem prática desportiva.
