A ideia de morte nos sonetos de Antero de Quental

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como objectivo a interpretação da ideia que o próprio Poeta designou como «Filosofia idealista da Morte». A interrogação que se apresenta é como ler os dois Anteros, o apolíneo e o nocturno: um, activista defensor de ideais de renovação e revolução e o outro, guiado por uma ideia pessimista e negativa, mas que, talvez, também se revista de uma aspiração positiva, renovadora e libertadora. Assim, questionar-se-á o despertar da ideia anteriana da morte, desde uma faceta mórbida até à aspiração à liberdade que o fim voluntário poderia trazer. Este trabalho iniciar-se-á por uma contextualização da época histórico-sócio- -cultural e da actuação e recepção de Antero de Quental no seu tempo e problematizará a inclusão do Poeta no período literário do Romantismo. A reflexão crítica a desenvolver será estruturada segundo cinco pontos principais: começará por uma breve exposição, em que se pretende apresentar algumas ideias que terão o seu desenvolvimento noutros sonetos, analisados nos capítulos seguintes; depois, debruçar-se-á sobre as duas tendências anterianas, luminosa e nocturna, defendidas por António Sérgio; em seguida, abordará a vivência poética anteriana do pessimismo, gerado pelo contraste entre a realidade e o ideal, e como essa experiência o conduziu à aspiração à Morte, ao Não-Ser, ao Nirvana, e, finalmente, à aspiração moral da Liberdade e do Bem. A conclusão procurará mostrar de que forma a ideia da Morte é positiva para Antero de Quental.
