Abstract

Em 1770, Botelho Mourão, governador de São Paulo e Luís Pinto de Souza Coutinho, do Mato Grosso, concordavam que poderiam partilhar o investimento no Iguatemi sem precisar a que capitania pertencia o território daquela fortaleza, posto que tudo era da " Monarquia do mesmo soberano". O governador de São Paulo começara as diligências para a instalação do presídio do Iguatemi desde 17966. A operação foi feita com cuidados de dissimulação, para evitar a desconfiança dos espanhóis.
