Abstract

Female infertility has been a subject of concern throughout history. For this reason, works such as Traité de la stérilité chez la femme (1864) by H. D. Maheux appeared in France in the 19th century, addressing this issue in a comprehensive manner. In this study, the characteristics of this work and its Spanish translation, published eleven years later, will be addressed. To do so, the socio-economic context of nineteenth-century Spain will be presented, and a biography of both the author and the translator will be presented. Finally, we will proceed with the analysis. In this, the prologue of the source text and the target text will be considered, in order to understand the purpose for which the treatise was published in France and Spain. Finally, the visibility of the translator through the translation techniques and the notes he incorporated into the Spanish text will be addressed.
