La visibilidad del traductor en los tratados de agricultura, agronomía, viticultura y vinificación (1773-1900)

Abstract

Mucho se ha debatido sobre la conveniencia de que el traductor se haga visible en la obra traducida, y numerosas han sido las opiniones vertidas, a lo largo de la historia de la traducción, tanto a favor como en contra, hasta el punto de llegar a tacharse su presencia en el texto traducido de «honte», de «violence» o de «ruse grossière». En el presente volumen, tras la contextualización social y cultural de las traducciones al español de tratados franceses sobre agricultura, agronomía, viticultura y vinificación en el momento de su producción y de su recepción (1773-1900), se da cuenta de cómo el traductor emerge en los textos que traduce, sirviéndose para ello de las instancias paratextuales (prólogos, prefacios y notas al pie de página). Se analizan con detalle estos espacios de visibilidad del traductor que, poco a poco, se va «adueñando» de la obra, llegando incluso a la «manipulación» del texto original a través de la eliminación de algún elemento o de la incorporación de otros de su propia autoría. Esta indudable «labor creativa» de modificación y de acomodación puede ser elogiada o por el contrario denostada, habida cuenta de la constatación del diferente proceder del traductor en la actualidad, pero sin duda, no dejará indiferente al lector, a quien invitamos a descubrir, a través del estudio de los veintitrés textos seleccionados, cuáles fueron los mecanismos empleados por el traductor a finales del siglo XVIII y a lo largo del siglo XIX, para lograr hacerse visible y dejar constancia de su intervención en el texto.
