Abstract

Un mosaico bicromo con representación de los ludi circenses, descubierto en 1988 en el Palazzo Imperiale de Ostia no ha sido estudiado detalladamente hasta hoy. Seis aurigae están acompañados por sendas inscripciones dando su nombre y el nombre del caballo, el funalis, a l'ablativo. Unas bolsas y unos modii completan esta imagen de tipo commemorativo. La A. llama la atención sobre una inscripción de Prima Porta con los nombres Liber e Hilarinus -que aparecen también en el mosaico de Ostia-, fechada en época antonina, y concluye que tanto la inscripción como el mosaico tienen la misma fecha, como más tarde el reino de Comodo. La iconografia de los ludi circenses en este mosaico se presta a varios paralelos con mosaicos ilustrando el mismo tema en el Occidente romano, y en particular en la península Ibérica.

Une mosaïque bichrome illustrant les ludi circenses, découverte dans le Palazzo Imperiale d'Ostie en 1988 n'a pas fait l'objet d'une étude détaillée, á ce jour. Six cochers sont accompagnés d' inscriptions donnant leur nom et celui de leur cheval, probablement le funalis, á l'ablatif. Des bourses et des cylindres de prix complètent cette image de type commémoratif. L'A. rapproche les noms de Liber et d'Hilarinus des mêmes noms connus par une inscription de Prima Porta, datée de l'époque antonine, et en tire argument pour dater la mosaïque d'Ostie, au plus tard sous le règne de Commode. L'iconographie des ludi circenses dans cette mosaïque fait l'objet de rapprochements avec les mosaïques illustrant le même sujet dans l'Occident romain, en particulier dans la péninsule Ibérique.
