José Faus Rodríguez (1913-1984) y su “Virgen de las Maravillas (Plegaria)” Op. 57 (1956) para la Semana Santa de Granada

Abstract

Holy Week is an important religious and cultural festivity in Andalusia that has evolved from the 15th century to the present day. Music has been an important element accompanying the processional parades throughout this period. In Granada, it was after the Civil War that music ensembles, composers and processional marches of certain importance for Holy Week began to emerge. In this context, the figure of the valencian José Faus Rodríguez (1913-1984) will be important in the emergence of the soundscape of Holy Week in Granada in the mid-20th century. As a conductor of the Municipal Band of Granada, he premiered his processional march "Virgen de las Maravillas (Plegaria)" in 1956, which will be the subject of study and analysis in this work.
