Abstract

[EN] Mugarduia sur is an important flint tool workshop in Urbasa near the geological outcrop of this raw material. The collection of industrial remains and the stratigraphical and archaeological precisions of our excavations (by IB and AC, from 1981 to 1987) are valued: geology and edafology of the sediments and formal analysis of the lithic industries. No macroscopic organic remains have been preserved in the site. Numerous and varied flint wastes derived from the manufacture of artefacts (debitage and retouche) and all the elements (hammers and compressors) required in their production have been recognized. Their technological and typological characters assure their reference to the Gravettian culture, in agreement with the classic patterns of Aquitaine and with those of that time in the north of the Iberian Peninsule. From three Thermoluminiscence analyses (by PB and MAM) of the thermal alteration of flint we propose its approximated date between 25,000 and 20,000 years BP.
