Abstract

[EN] This paper analyses the settlement pattern in the basin of the river Guadamejud in the region of La Alcarria in the province of Cuenca during the Late Iron Age (3rd and 2nd centuries BC). The importance of this analysis lies partly in the fact that this area hitherto has been ignored by archaeological research. As a result of a comparative analysis settlements can be divided into two major groups because of differences in situation in the basin, geomorphological emplacement, presence/absence of defensive structures and size. The possibility of interpreting these two sets in terms of the existence of two different ethnic groups is put forward, taking into account that some classical authors set the limit of the Celtiberia in this area. In addition the ordered disposition of settlements in the basin suggests the existence of a road linking them.
