[EN] Studies on urban history usually show a society based on the notion of privilege, a society in which the conflicts arising from disputes over political participation lead to interclass conflicts between knights/privileged people and plebeians/common people. The article revises the idea of urban political assemglies (concejo cerrado) and proposes an alternative approach to the study of social stratification. We emphasize the importance of prosopography to revise the conepts of dominant and subjugated classes and to redefine social and political conflicts, in which different segments within the dominant class were involved.
