Abstract

Deber?a admitirse, a pesar de tantas y tantas argumentaciones de cu?o historicista, que la revelaci?n de la g?nesis y constituci?n hist?rica de un genuino problema filos?fico no lo convierte en menos acuciante y perenne. Rorty comenzaba su ya cl?sica obra La filosof?a y el espejo de la naturaleza con un cap?tulo titulado ?La invenci?n de la mente?, pero el no menos cl?sico libro de Bruno Snell El descubrimiento del esp?ritu (hoy dir?amos ?mente?) ya hab?a establecido firmemente que ?descubrimiento?, en tales asuntos, no refiere ni al toparse con algo preexistente ni tampoco a una mera ?invenci?n?. Se descubre algo que preexiste al descubrimiento, pero no bajo la forma en que, tras ello, se da a la reflexi?n, en este caso como problema sobre la naturaleza de lo espiritual o sobre la naturaleza de lo mental. Sin duda, lo descubierto en el pensar europeo con los griegos, a lo que Snell presta atenci?n, est? lejos del problema de la mente que preocupa a Rorty y que adquiere su primera expresi?n en la filosof?a cartesiana. En este ?ltimo ven la luz ciertas intuiciones que, preexistentes, anteriores en esencia y constitutivamente a los principios filos?ficos bajo los cuales Descartes las codifica, marcan un inicio, la g?nesis hist?rica del ?espacio de lo mental? en cuanto espacio de la subjetividad.
