The sinergy between popular music and musicians ?de concierto?: the reception of the ?baile espa?ol? in the cultural gatherings of Kurt Schindler

Abstract

En el periodo de entreguerras (s. XX), fueron muchos los compositores extranjeros que se sintieron atra?dos por la m?sica popular espa?ola, y que, estableciendo un discurso espec?fico identitario y cultural, vieron en los bailes populares espa?oles la expresi?n del alma del pueblo, arma de doble filo con el que luego se constituyeron importantes discursos de poder. El compositor alem?n Kurt Schindler (1882-1935) fue primer m?sico que busc? en los materiales recogidos en trabajo de campo por toda la geograf?a de la pen?nsula ib?rica, la expresi?n de la tradici?n oral musical; en sus cuadernos de campo y en su colecci?n fotogr?fica de bailes y danzas se advierte la importancia que ?l concede al gesto, al sonido y la m?sica, haciendo interesantes anotaciones sobre c?mo interpretan esos repertorios las informantes (mujeres en su mayor?a) y sobre su comparaci?n con repertorio similar recopilado en otras localidades. Pero su discurso no qued? plasmado solamente en los materiales etnogr?ficos, sino que ?l tom? conciencia de la necesidad de difundir tanto en Espa?a y Portugal como en Estados Unidos estos cantos y bailes; el fue consciente de que ten?a que mostrar a sus oyentes, que desconoc?an los elementos culturales espa?oles en su totalidad, una identidad cultural m?s all? del tipismo de ?lo andaluz? y ?lo gitano? a trav?s del repertorio in?dito (para el p?blico que le escuchaba) de jotas, romances, cantos de trabajo y canciones infantiles. Gracias a los peri?dicos de la ?poca podemos ver la repercusi?n social de dichos discursos culturales, que supusieron, en muchos casos, una apertura al concepto identitario de lo espa?ol, en esos ambientes donde era tradici?n que la valoraci?n de la m?sica ?de concierto? primara sobre las m?sicas populares.
