Abstract

From 1701 onwards, the conflict over the succession to the Spanish crown and the consequent dismemberment of the monarchy set the European military and diplomatic agenda for half a century. The Italian exiles at the court of Philip V became a powerful group that was partly entrusted with the mission of recovering Italy, holding prominent ministerial, diplomatic and military posts, as well as a good number of the heads of the royal houses of Philip V and Isabella of Farnese. This study delves into the configuration of these kinship networks, as well as the complex reasons for dynastic loyalty linked to the heads of the house and lineages
