Abstract

[ES]En 1972, un agudo artículo del Profesor Jover Zamora señalaba los límites, problemas y expectativas del trabajo histórico sobre el siglo XIX español, subrayando un fenómeno, bien visible hoy en día: la aceleración de la historia, que tiende progresivamente a acortar las fronteras de «lo contemporáneo». El hecho de que la evolución del mundo actual, con la crisis de los valores que se forjaron en los siglos XVIII y XIX, nos haga considerar muy lejanos y casi ajenos a nosotros, los avatares del siglo XIX, en beneficio del presente, no nos debe hacer olvidar que, siguiendo al Profesor Jover, «Cánovas, Narváez o Larra son historia a secas por más que no haya historia ajena a la conformación de lo realmente contemporáneo... los españoles no necesitamos el siglo XIX para idealizarlo, ni para renegar de él; lo necesitamos, sencillamente, para entender lo que es nuestra realidad contemporánea, lo que es nuestra realidad actual»1...
