Abstract

Quiz? el m?s sobresaliente sea el de Al? Caro, un alarife que a finales del siglo xv proyect? y dirigi? la construcci?n del castillo de Coca, la obra m?s insigne de la arquitectura militar mud?jar del siglo xv castellano. Efectivamente, encontramos que hacia 1486 fue reclamado por don Alonso FonsecaAvellaneda, se?or de las villas de Coca y Alaejos, para levantar un impresionante castillo -que, a la vez, cumplir?a las funciones de palacio nobiliar- en Coca, con la ayuda de sus hermanos Yuc;afe y Abc;eyte. Antes de que terminara el siglo, cuando el inmueble estaba muy avanzado, este castillo ya causaba admiraci?n ?allende los puertos?, es decir, en tierras toledanas, de forma que no hay que extra?arse de que otro influyente noble de la ?poca, don Gonzalo Chac? n -alcaide del alc?zar de ?vila y contador mayor de la reina- le encargara la direcci?n de la fortaleza que comenz? a levantar hacia 1496 en su villa de Casarrubios del Monte, actual provincia de Toledo. Al? Caro, a la vez que estos castillos, dirig?a algunas obras en la ciudad de ?vila de manera que vemos al maestre abulense reclamado por unos y por otros, lo que da fe de que su competencia profesional era un?nimemente reconocida.
