Poder, diplomacia e circulação cultural no século XVI

Power, diplomacy and cultural circulation in the 16th century
Authors: Buescu, Ana Isabel;

Poder, diplomacia e circulação cultural no século XVI

Abstract

This text focuses on aspects of the diplomatic activity of the Portuguese crown in the 16th century, in its political, cultural and symbolic dimensions. We will analyse two main aspects: firstly, how diplomatic acts served, in an emblematic way by king Manuel’s external political action, the propaganda and visibility of the Portuguese crown on the European stage; secondly, how the political interaction of royal and papal agents and diplomats were an important instrument of the circulation of objects of distinction and, therefore, of cultural transmission.
