La vitalidad etnolingüística gallega

Abstract

Se aplica el modelo teórico de la vitalidad etnolingüística desarrollado por Giles et al. (1977) a la comunidad etnolingüística gallega desde un punto de vista crítico. Se ofrece una descripción de los factores socioestructurales que han conformado y alterado la vitalidad etnolingüística en momentos clave de la historia social de la lengua gallega. El caso gallego demuestra que no todos los factores socioestructurales señalados por Giles et al. (1977) poseen la misma fuerza predictora sobre la probabilidad de supervivencia de un grupo etnolingüístico como colectividad diferenciada. La incorporación del gallego como lengua pública, más o menos ritual, de las instituciones propias de la comunidad autónoma ha aumentado la vitalidad etnolingüística gallega. Entre los factores negativos destaca una marcada desgalleguización intergeneracional y el descenso de su uso en entornos urbanos y semiurbanos.
