La escultura barroca del siglo XVIII en la ciudad de Málaga a través de su arquitectura lignaria

Abstract

Trabajo Fin de Máster Propio en Escultura Barroca Española (2013/14). Director: Antonio Rafael Fernández Paradas ; Tutores: Antonio Rafael Fernández Paradas, Juan Antonio Sánchez López. La evolución de la escultura durante los siglos del Barroco irá indisolublemente ligada a la de la retablística. La ciudad de Málaga no será ajena a ello y por consiguiente, la presencia de los principales maestros y talleres escultóricos de la urbe en torno a la creación de estas sugestivas ‘máquinas’, será una constante. Así pues, desde los ejemplos tardomanieristas y protobarrocos de la primera mitad del siglo XVII; que coparán gran parte de la centuria; se irá dando entrada hacia el final de la misma al soporte salomónico. No obstante, será durante el Setecientos cuando la exuberancia barroca se apropie de la arquitectura lignaria, conformándose la mayoría de los grandes conjuntos retablísticos de la ciudad. En este sentido, la temprana inclusión del estípite y su combinación con la ya ensayada columna torsa, compondrán el cenit de dicha evolución como preámbulo de la incorporación de las tendencias clasicistas y los repertorios rococós, que supondrán el ‘canto de cisne’ de la disciplina antes de los reaccionarios postulados academicistas de finales de siglo.
