Abstract

The soundscape of green parks starts to play an important role to assess the sustainability of a city. Thus the main goal of this study was to analyze the environmental sound of green parks of the city of Coimbra. This analysis has been made by an objective and subjective evaluation through surveys and acoustic measurements. For this propose two parks have been chosen Choupal National Forest, located on the outskirts of the city, and Mondego Green Park, which is located in the city center. A total of 17 points have been defined to perform measurements and a total of 50 surveys have been filled the two parks. For the Choupal National Forest the evaluation period was during the morning while the afternoon period was chosen to evaluate the Mondego Green Park. It was found that the sound levels are relatively high for the areas under analysis, ie recreational areas whose acoustic environment should provide comfort to users, however parks users do not have the perception of the high levels since they feel satisfied with the soundscape of parks they frequent.
