Abstract

Currently, the senior population represents more than a fifth of the residents in Portugal. Ageing is a natural process characterized by a decline of the cognitive, sensorial and motor functions. The lack of stimulation tends to aggravate the declining process, which in extreme cases could lead to the development of dementia, being the Alzheimer’s disease one of the most common forms. Some investigators have noticed beneficial results associated with the use of cognitive training techniques for the task of maintaning cognitive health. Still, the fast-paced technological evolution tends to overwhelm the user centered design focus and the universal access for the newly released technologies. This dissertation presents a practical case on the design of a web activity of cognitive training, entitled “Palavras-chave”, designed with focus on healthy seniors and seniors with mild cognitive impairment. This activity will later be added to eleven cognitive training activities offered by the primerCOG plataform.
