Abstract

With the need to preserve the surface for the noblest purposes of human activity, such as housing, work and leisure, the use of underground space in urban areas to house transport networks and services like water, gas and electricity, has been increasingly frequent. With urban growth, the choice of location for geotechnical works has as its main factor the population demand and not the properties of the local soils. Thus, solutions to improve the geotechnical conditions of these soils are necessary to adapt them to permissible performance standards for geotechnical works. Thus, this dissertation intends to increase the understanding of injections in soils, namely about the improvement of the behavior that it is possible to obtain in tunnel excavation. This dissertation seeks to evaluate which is the most appropriate type of injection to be used for a standard soil profile to be treated, evaluating the benefits of the treatment through the analysis of deformations induced on the surface by tunnel excavation. For this purpose, the theoretical methods developed and the experimental data found in the bibliography related to the case of soft soils in Brazil are used, analyzing more specifically the case of the Paradise Tunnel of the São Paulo Metropolitan, excavated in the soil named red clay of São Paulo, by the NATM method. We are going to evaluate the influence of several aspects, namely those related to the injection configuration used and the volume of treated soil, carrying out an analysis using the finite element method with the software Plaxis 2D. Based on the results obtained, an estimate will be made of the amount of materials needed to be treated, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each case studied.
