Eritema Nodoso - Aspectos Clínicos

Abstract

O diagnóstico é essencialmente clínico, no entanto multidisciplinar. .

Erythema nodosum it’s a common panniculitis resulting from an inflammatory process of the septa of the subcutaneous fat. It is more prevalent among young women with a peak of incidence during the second to the fourth decades of life. The aim of the present work is to perform a review of the literature about this topic. A bibliographic research was made using “etiology(MeSH) OR diagnosis(MeSH) OR pathology(MeSH)” on PubMed with a 10 years’ timeline, resulting in the selection of 19 articles. Erythema nodosum results from a hypersensitivity reaction to a different type of antigens. Although mostly idiopathic, erythema nodosum can occur in association with a variety of causes, like underlying infections or drug intake. It is characterized by painful erythematous nodules mainly located symmetrically on the anterior aspect of the lower extremities. Fever, malaise and arthralgia can precede the cutaneous eruption. The diagnosis is based on clinical features. Erythema nodosum is a self-limited disease with resolution in 2 to 8 weeks. In general, the treatment is only symptomatic. Erythema nodosum is associated with a good prognosis. .
