Etnografia, Desenvolvimento Humano e Desporto

Abstract

The relation between quantitative and qualitative methodologies as conflicting models in social research has crossed several areas in the past and continues in some today (Hammmersley & Atkinson, 1983). Ethnographic study represents itself a notion of social investigation in diverse contexts, several studies, for example, the need to trace youth participation in social contexts. Naturalism in ethnography has been applied, for example, in the important role that sport has in family daily lives as a social tool for culturally nurtured social skills and values. Sport ethnography should consider the difficult relation of pedagogy with ethnography since pedagogy is still considered a central dimension in sport science. In sport science domain we consider two aspects, for one hand, ethnographic approach abstinence in their research and, on the other, a certain kind of predestination of the social sport domain for ethnographic considerations (Thiele, 2003). Human development should be understood as a cultural process and this understanding requires a historical perspective of individual contributions in community dynamics (Zastrow & Kurst-Ashman, 2010). Therefore, Bronfenbrenners’ Bioecological Theory is contextualist and interacctionist and breaks with the classic separation between person and subject of investigation (Bronfenbrenner & Evans, 2000). Till the present, few studies have contemplated an over view that seeks to understand development that considers the interaction of four elements (Person-Proximal Process-Context-Time) that compose bioecological paradigm, in sport domain.
