Formulação e caracterização acústica de materiais granulares porosos

Abstract

The growing concern regarding environmental issues, namely the management of construction and demolition waste (RCD), responsible for a very significant part of the total waste pro-duced in Portugal (as in the other Member States of the European Union), has been leading to the development of solutions that aim to incorporate these residues in several products. The goal is to improve the features for which they were developed, giving it a new utility. This study aims to assess the improvement of sound attenuation of the constituent material for an acoustic barrier with the incorporation of certain residues. The use of porous granular materials is very common in civil engineering applications, some-times being used with acoustic purposes due to their interesting behavior from the point of view of sound absorption. Applications of this type of material are found in building elements, but also in exterior applications such as noise barriers, surface layers of floors or even building facade elements.Within this dissertation, aggregates from porous granular urban waste were used as raw mate-rial in search of solutions that can be incorporated into acoustic barriers. In this context, a set of formulations with different composition and thickness was characterized, analyzing their influence on the sound absorption levels conferred by these acoustic solutions. Experimental tests capable of characterizing the samples were carried out, namely: the coefficient of sound absorption measured with the an impedance tube, the permeability, material loss under fire testing and mechanical testing (bending and compression). From the experimental results obtained, we can say that the reuse of this type of waste is very promising and with high potential in the construction sector, not only for its economic component end technical performance, but also for its environmental sustainability. The present dissertation was developer within the scope of the project with reference POCI- OA-0247-FEDER-033990 (iNBRail), supported by FEDER funded by ABDER funds through the COMPETE2020 – Operational Programme Competitivity and Internationalization (POCI).
