Abstract

The present dissertation has the goal of deepening the knowledge on the social representations of luso-tropicalism and the perceived threat towards immigrants. It also aims to verify if portuguese workers accept immigrant integration measures in the workplace and are comfortable having an immigrant as a superior/boss or co-worker. The sample consists of 117 portuguese workers and was collected using self-administered questionnaires. The results obtained suggest the permanence of some luso-tropicalist beliefs in the portuguese community. However, it can be verified that the results do not corroborate the association of luso-tropicalism and the belief in the absence of prejudice towards immigrants. There is also no perceived threat towards immigrants, an acceptance of integration measures and a high comfort in having an immigrant as a superior/boss or co-worker.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
