Jejum Intermitente - Estará o segredo na abstinência?

Abstract

The intermittent fasting is a dietary pattern in which periods of fasting and feeding alternate in windows of withdrawal or food ingestion of longer or shorter duration. Despite being practiced for millennia, only recent studies have begun to emerge to clarify its role in adaptive cellular responses by reducing oxidative damage and inflammation, optimizing energy metabolism, and enhancing cellular protection.Although still controversial, there are already some laboratory and clinical studies that reveal numerous indications of a probable association of intermittent fasting with the beneficial effect on the prevention, maintenance or even treatment of several pathologies, minimizing the side effects caused by dietary interventions chronic diseases. Today, where the health professional knows more and more of the disease, but in a medical practice where the intervention on the same one begins to be more limited, will this strategy alone be able to improve the functional result, in experimental models, of a wide range of age-related diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and neurological disorders? At a time when retention costs make it imperative to look at the disease in its form of prevention, will fasting have the ability to neutralize pathological processes? This thesis aims to do a review of the current literature on this subject, presenting an overview of intermittent fasting regimes, summarizing the evidence on the benefits of intermittent fasting for health, and discussing the physiological mechanisms by which intermittent fasting can lead to better results. If the efficacy of the different intermittent fasting regimens is individually proven, they may eventually offer interesting and promising non-pharmacological approaches.
