Utilização de Elementos Cerâmicos Colados em Fachadas Ventiladas

Abstract

Among the building cladding systems currently available, ventilated facades assume a leading role due to their advantages over traditional cladding, together with their numerous application possibilities across a range of architectural options. Within the ceramic industry, the latest products in full body porcelain tiles are characterized by high resistance and reduced thickness, which considerably lowers the weight per area of construction when compared to other products, thus providing a solution that is advantageous, shows versatility and has wide applicability. Along with the development and improvement of ceramic tile solutions, new techniques for fixation by bonding the cladding products to their respective support have been developed as an alternative to the traditional mechanical fixation. This study was developed in order to test the application of ceramic tiles in ventilated facade systems using adhesives. The main aim of this project is to evaluate the viability of both the bonding technique and the set tile/metal beam by a battery of tests that mimic the action of its own weight and the effect of the wind under the different environmental conditions to which it is most commonly exposed, namely temperature, humidity, solar radiation and freezing/thawing cycles. The results of this study may contribute to defining the applicability conditions of bonding ceramic tiles on metal beams as part of ventilated facades.
