Abstract

Materiais e métodos: Os materiais avaliados foram: Zirconfill® (TECHnew, RJ, Brasil), Filtek™ Supreme XTE (3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA), Brilliant EverGlow™ (Coltène, Whaledent, Altstätten), Ceram.X® Duo (Dentslpy, Middle East & Africa), e Harmonize™ (KERR, Orange, CA, USA).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness of zirconia-based resin composites after polishing. Methods: The materials evaluated were: Zirconfill® (TECHnew, RJ, Brasil), Filtek™ Supreme XTE (3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA), Brilliant EverGlow™ (Coltène, Whaledent, Altstätten), Ceram.X® Duo (Dentslpy, Middle East & Africa), and Harmonize™ (KERR, Orange, CA, USA). Ten specimens of each composite were made using a circular silicone mold with 6 mm of diameter and 1,5 mm of thickness. The surfaces of the samples were initially prepared with 1200 silicon carbide abrasive disks in a humidified environment, on both sides and for 5 seconds each in order to standardize sample surfaces. Then, only one surface of each sample was subjected to a SwissFlex® Disc polishing system (Coltene, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, USA), in a decreasing granulometry sequence (70 μm > 50μm > 30μm > 5μm), with rotation set at 7500 rpm. After polishing the surface roughness was evaluated (Sa-μm value), of all samples from each group. A non-contact 3D optical profilometer was used (S neox® 3D, Sensofar, Stuttgart, Alemanha). Statistical analysis was performed with the IBM® SPSS® Statistics Version 23. The evaluation of differences between each pair of groups was corrected by the Bonferroni method. The level of significance was established at 0.05 for all analysis. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the surface roughness of the different composite resins studied (p<0.05). Brilliant EverGlow™ and Ceram.X® Duo obtained the lowest values of roughness; Harmonize ™ an intermediate value; Zirconfill® and Filtek ™ Supreme XTE showed the highest values of surface roughness. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the present study, the five composite resins tested presented statistically significant mean values of surface roughness (Sa) after polishing procedure.
