Abstract

Trabalho final do 6º ano médico com vista à atribuição do grau de mestre realizado no âmbito do ciclo de estudos do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina da Universidade da Coimbra, que consistiu na elaboração de um artigo de revisão sobre a abordagem ao pé diabético, em Medicina Geral e Familiar. A escolha do tema prendeu-se com a extensa prevalência desta enfermidade, uma vez que a diabetes continua a ser uma das principais doenças crónicas, tanto a nível mundial como nacional, manifestando uma incidência crescente.A partir de uma revisão bibliográfica, o objetivo principal deste estudo foi analisar os métodos ideais de prevenção, seguimento e tratamento do pé diabético, evitando o sofrimento do doente bem como a possibilidade de amputação. Fez também parte deste projeto alertar para a importância da família no papel de cuidador informal, sendo essencial incluí-la nas orientações clínicas preventivas.Para tal, foi efetuada uma seleção de artigos através do acesso a múltiplas bases de dados, maioritariamente na PUBMED, mas também nas Clinical Evidence, UptoDate, British Medical Journal, SciELO, Elsevier, entre outras.Ciente de que a Medicina contemporânea requer uma visão global e dinâmica do doente, o pé diabético é não só um problema de saúde pública, como também uma patologia com grande impacto na qualidade de vida dos doentes e das suas famílias.Trabalho final do 6º ano médico com vista à atribuição do grau de mestre realizado no âmbito do ciclo de estudos do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina da Universidade da Coimbra, que consistiu na elaboração de um artigo de revisão sobre a abordagem ao pé diabético, em Medicina Geral e Familiar. This final project of the last medical year with the intent of the attribution of the master’s degree, within the cycle of studies in Medicine of the University of Coimbra, consisted in the elaboration of a review article about diabetic foot approach, in general and family medicine. The topic was chosen given the range of this pathology, both at global and national level, with a growing incidence.Through a literature review, the main goal of this paper was the analysis of the ideal methods of prevention, follow-up and treatment of the diabetic foot, avoiding the patient’s suffering as well as the possibility of amputation. It was also part of this assignment to warn about the importance of the role of the family as a caregiver, becoming essential to include it in the preventive clinical guidelines. In order to achieve this goal a selection of articles was made accessing multiple databases, mainly PUBMED, but also Clinical Evidence, UptoDate, British Medical Journal, SciELO, Elsevier, among others.Being aware that contemporary Medicine requires a global and dynamic view of the patient, the diabetic foot is not only a public health problem, but also a disease with a great impact on the quality of life of patients and their families.This final project of the last medical year with the intent of the attribution of the master’s degree, within the cycle of studies in Medicine of the University of Coimbra, consisted in the elaboration of a review article about diabetic foot approach, in general and family medicine.
