Listeriose na gravidez

Abstract

Listeriosis is a rare disease caused by Listeria monocytogenes, a gram-positive and anaerobic facultative bacterium. In Europe, the incidence is 3 cases per million and in Portugal is 2,3 cases per million. Pregnant women represent 17% of all cases of listeriosis, being more susceptible multiple gestations, hispanic, ethnic and poor ones. In this population the infection is auto-limited, and can be asymptomatic or cause flu-like syndrome. However, the neonate can have severe respiratory and neurologic symptoms, mainly when the maternal diagnosis was not done. The diagnosis is based on the positive hemocultures, and is followed by antibioterapy with ampicilina associated or not with gentamicine. The primary prevention must be empathized with the avoiding of potential contaminated food.
