Repercussão sistémica na DPOC

Abstract

Os estudos mais recentes indicam que a doença pulmonar obstrutiva crónica (DPOC) é uma doença complexa que envolve mais do que a obstrução aérea. Como a DPOC tem por base uma resposta inflamatória anómala ao tabaco e outras partículas nocivas, o “spill-over” de mediadores inflamatórios pode resultar em manifestações sistémicas. Exemplos dessas comorbilidades são as doenças cardiovasculares, hipertensão pulmonar, cancro pulmonar, anemia, caquexia, diabetes, miopatia, osteoporose, depressão e apneia obstrutiva do sono. Um melhor entendimento da origem e consequências da inflamação sistémica e potenciais terapêuticas poderão levar a um melhor tratamento dos doentes com DPOC.

Latest studies shows that chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex disease involving more than airflow obstruction. As COPD results from an abnormal inflammatory response to tobacco and other noxious particles, the “spill-over” of inflammatory mediators may result in systemic manifestations. Examples of this comorbidities are cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, anemia, caquexy, diabetes, myopathy, osteoporosis, depression and obstructive sleep apnea. A better understanding of the origin and consequences of systemic inflammation and potential therapies, will most likely lead to better care of patients with COPD
