Polimedicação no idoso

Authors: Anes, Diogo Filipe Soares;

Polimedicação no idoso

Abstract

The elderly are very vulnerable to iatrogenicity resulting from the use of drugs, this is due to the multiple comorbidities, the need to use multiple drugs and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes proper to aging. This work aims to raise awareness for polypharmacy in the elderly and to point actions to minimize iatrogenic effects that arise, especially in the elderly. This literature review will focus on the epidemiology of polypharmacy, the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes associated with aging, potentially inappropriate medications in the elderly, causes and consequences of polypharmacy and finally the clinical approach to reduce polypharmacy in the elderly
