Aspetos clínicos da sarcoidose

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the clinical features of sarcoidosis in a sample of Portuguese patients. Methods: A descriptive study, involving a sample of 79 patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis followed in the Pulmonology Department of Coimbra´s University Hospital Centre. The information was obtained by consulting the clinical records of patients concerned and the statistical analysis was based on IBM SPSS 22. Results: The disease was more prevalent in women (54.4%), aged between 40-49 years (29.1%), with a mean age of 41.67±13.18 years. Constitutional symptoms (fever, asthenia, anorexia, weight loss, night sweats) were the most common (40.5%), followed by dyspnea (25.3%). The most commonly affected organ was the lung and was involved in 92.4%, followed by lymph nodes in 77.2%. The predominant radiological stage presentation was stage II (44.3%), and pulmonary function tests found to be altered in 29.1% of patients, with the obstructive pattern being the most common pattern in 11.4% of patients overall. SACE values proved to be elevated in 36.7% of patients and serum calcium in 7.6%. The corticosteroid therapy was initiated in 46.8%, predominantly in patients with more advanced radiographic stages (p < 0,05). Conclusion: There were no significant differences between the results obtained in this study, compared with other large previous series, conducted in populations with different epidemiological characteristics.
